The Yearly “State of Real Estate” Report and 2009 Forecast for Hawaii

Filed under: Real Estate — Tags: — enux @ 9:04 pm

Prudential Locations, which is the state of Hawaii’s biggest home-grown real estate firm, has just now released their yearly “State of Real Estate” research report for 2009.
They are a leader on Oahu, Maui, Big Island, Kauai, Molokai, and Lanai, with detailed property purchase data for all of those named markets.
This rather seeeping report goes into some degree of detail concerning how the Hawaii real estate market
did this year and also examines how the firm anticipates the market to perform next year. it should be an interesting year for sure.
All in all, it appears that this year will finish with just under thirty percent less total purchases than last year. Apparently, average condo unit prices have remained about the same while house prices have dipped by around 3.1 percent.
Going into next year, the firm expects that prices will dip a further 6-10% by the middle of next year, largely because of poor consumer confidence levels.
Furthermore, the firm predicts the total amount of purchases next year will slide by a full quarter as compared to this year.
On top of that, they predict that next year will be great for investors with fast dropping prices, good interest rates and lots of real estate available.
it appears that Kauai real estate will probably be better off than some of the other islands for a number of reasons including a lack of new building permits. I have seen the Kauai real estate market break out of a slum before, in particular after the 1992 Hurricane Iniki damage, so I am probably more optimistic than most at this time.

Chemical Reaction Prompts Evacuation of Midwest School

Filed under: National News — Tags: — enux @ 9:16 pm

I recently returned from the Seattle area and wanted to post this story: A hazardous materials spill caused a minor explosion in a science lab Thursday afternoon, prompting a brief evacuation of a northwest suburban high school in Illinois.
About 12:50 p.m., students and faculty at Hoffman Estates High at 1100 W. Higgins Rd. were sent outside in response to a fire alarm prompted by a chemical reaction, according to an alert on the school Web site. Students were later transferred to the gymnasium.

No students were injured, but two staff members were sent to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates as a precaution, according to a joint release from the Hoffman Estates Police and Fire departments.

One of them inhaled vapors and was expected to be released from the hospital Thursday afternoon, Fire Chief Robert Gorvett said. By the way if you live in Seattle and need a top rated Seattle Criminal Attorney then may I suggest Blair & Kim, PLLC. They are in fact excellent Seattle Criminal Attorney and can help you with a wide array of different cases.

The spill occurred when someone dumped an unknown chemical into a sink in a science lab. The chemical reacted with water in the drain trap and caused the drain pipe to blow open. The small explosion knocked over some household cleaning chemicals, which spilled onto the floor of the lab, according to Gorvett.

The incident occurred in a “non-student preparation area” being cleaned and packed for a scheduled move due to an upcoming construction project. The chemical reaction caused a vapor cloud that activated a smoke detector, but no students were in the room at the time, the release said.
It does not appear to be criminal related at this time, so I doubt if any of the students needs to rush out and get an attorney. Well it is nice to be back from Seattle, I had a great time.
